Solution to CyberTeaser B300

When the thermometer was taken out of the molten tin, the temperature of the glass bulb dropped sharply. The bulb shrank and squeezed the mercury, causing it to rise in the glass column. To quantify this effect, compare the coefficients of thermal expansion for glass and mercury.
