Solution to CyberTeaser B258
Consider the four rectangles at the upper left corner
(see the figure). The area of one of them is not known. Lets find it. We can see
that the ratio of the areas of rectangles 1 and 2 is the same as the ratio of the areas of
rectangles 3 and 4. Therefore, the area of rectangle 3 is 6. Reasoning in the same way, we
can successively find the areas of the reactangles above and diagonal that runs from the
upper left to the lower right. As a result, we find that the area of the desired rectangle
is 24.
