DCRA Takes Regulatory Action on Tenley Tower

(Washington, DC) - On Thursday, October 5, the Williams Administration took action against American Tower, by issuing a notice through the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), to rescind and cancel construction of the telecommunication tower in the Northwest area of the District.

"While we encourage projects that promote neighborhood-based economic development, it's essential that these projects go through a complete regulatory process," said Mayor Anthony A. Williams. "I applaud these residents for coming together as a community to support the best interests of their neighborhood."

"There were a number of procedural errors identified in the notice," said DCRA Acting Director Carlynn Fuller. "Based on this information, there was no choice but for the Agency to cancel the permits."

American Tower has been given until 12 noon Tuesday, October 10, 2000 to present evidence or documentation demonstrating that the errors cited in the Notice did not take place. If no such written materials are provided, or the materials provided do not alter the conclusion that the permits are invalid, the cancellation and rescission shall become effective as of 5 pm Tuesday, October 10, 2000, and all work is to cease at that time.
